Immediate Dentures
Get temporary, same-day, immediate dentures after your tooth extraction
Immediate dentures are full or partial dentures that you can get on the day of your tooth extraction. These will allow you to eat and talk while your mouth and gums heal from your tooth removal, before we begin to create your permanent dentures.
The healing process will typically take around six months, so it’s important to us that we create a comfortable fit for you at this stage. So, what do immediate dentures involve? And what should you expect when you walk into your dentist’s office?
Why choose immediate dentures?
We’re here to make the transition from the removal of your natural teeth, through the healing process and to the creation and fitting of your dentures easier. Understand the process of getting immediate dentures from start to finish.
Book with us ahead of your tooth extraction or call for emergencies
Where possible, you’re welcome to book ahead of time with us at Galon Dental Prosthetics to have an immediate denture consultation. We know this isn’t always that simple, though. If you urgently need immediate dentures, give our team a call, and we’ll get you in as soon as we can. Dentists and medical professionals are also welcome to refer their patients to us.
Immediate dentures for function & protection
Immediate dentures are the ideal solution to get you by after tooth extractions. Whether you plan to get a full set of dentures or a partial set of dentures, are receiving a dental implant, or still need to decide on your treatment plan, immediate dentures allow you to eat and talk with relative comfort and ease.
While immediate dentures are excellent for filling those gaps in the function of your teeth and mouth, they also act as amazing protection for your gums as they heal. Over time, the extraction site will heal, and gum shrinkage will occur, giving you a better base for your more permanent dentures.

Excellent protection while you heal
Your gums will take approximately six months to heal to a state where we can begin the process of transitioning to permanent dentures. Aside from the function and comfort of these dentures, they also play an important role in protecting your oral health as your gums heal.
Your gums will form clots where your teeth have been removed. Immediate dentures play a vital role in stabilising these clots, allowing you a smoother and speedier healing and recovery process.
Patient-centred denture therapy is our commitment to you.
Even when we are providing you with an immediate denture that’s designed as a temporary solution, we still take a therapeutic approach. You’ll receive guidance and advice for making the most of your immediate dentures. It’s how we ensure your comfort, quality of life, and success in this sometimes-uncomfortable transition.

Immediate dentures are an interim solution to help you while you recover from tooth extraction. They are not intended to be a long-term solution, but can act as a great interim solution while your mouth adjusts post-extraction.
Immediate dentures can be either full or complete dentures, depending on your needs.
For the first few days after fitting your new immediate dentures, you should focus on soft foods, only introducing more solid foods gradually over the coming days. You should also follow all oral hygiene instructions given to you by your dentist: taking proper care of your gums, remaining teeth, and dentures will help you achieve a successful result.
Most people note that immediate dentures do feel different to permanent dentures. Sometimes, they can require adjustment and realignment: it’s always a good idea to get back in touch with your dentist for necessary adjustments if things don’t feel right.
You will generally have to wait three to six months before your permanent denture placement, so that your gums can heal and the bone in the area has settled.
